Kicking Bear

Q.What's the meaning behind the band's name?
A. Our band is named after a Native American Warrior, Holyman and artist. Kicking Bear encompassed all the characteristics that we wanted our band possess; Something wild, something spiritual, and most importantly creative.

Q.How the band started??
A. The core of Kickin' Bear has been playing together over the last 10 years... As our two rivaling bands unraveled; After The Universe and Tommy's band Clay Pigeon, we decided to mend the broken pieces into what we have today. What then seemed like the end of everything was in retrospect a new beginning.

Q.What's the message to transmit with your music??
A. Our all around goal is to put real life to music; the whole beautiful, chaotic mess...

Q.What's your method at the time of writting a song??
A.Personally I get most of my ideas either driving or in the shower...haha. I get an idea, dry off and grab a guitar with my pruney hands and start figuring it out right there. If it turns out right I bring to practice and let my band mates run with it.

Q.Which is your music influences??
A. Always have loved classic rock bands. My dad owned a record store when I was growing up...He pretty much DJ'd my childhood with his massive vinyl collection. The band as a whole has been heavily influenced by CS&N, Pink Floyd, The Band, Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket...the list goes on forever.

Q.What plans do you guys have for the future??
A. Just to keep writing and recording music. We love playing shows and sharing our tunes with anyone who wants to hear it. Right now the whole band lives together in an old house in West Philadelphia...we think a band that can live together will stay together...we'll let you know how that turns out.

Q.Which has been the funniest prank you guys have been or took part while on tour or after a show??
A. Paid a drag queen to seduce Chris...might have worked had he not noticed the adam's apple haha.

Q.If you guys were stranded in the middle of nowhere after a show or while on tour. The help is 65 miles away from where you guys are, ¿Who would you guys send to look for help? And if while the rest wait, there's no food and the only way to feed yourself is by eating each other, ¿Who would you eat first?
A. Easy! I'd send Eamonn to look for help, he has the instincts of a panther and besides has very little meat to go around. Dans life would be spared, as he is the only professional chef in the band, his culinary skills will be needed to prepare the delicious bounty of Wayne meat.

Q. Which country you guys would love to play?
A. Anywhere in europe, however I have always wanted to visit Spain.

Q.With which bands you guys would love to share stage??
A. The Who tops the list, however are also willing to except Pearl Jam if they are not available.

Q.Are you guys OK, with the direction the band is going actually?
A. I don't think artist are ever entirely happy...we are always eager to move onto bigger and better things and we definitely have been known to bitch about it, haha. Still, we know where we're heading and love what we've accomplished thus far, though nothing can cool the desire to become a better Kickin' Bear.
